Dengue Fever

  • According to the Center for Disease Control and Transmission, about 2.5 billion people worldwide live in areas where there is risk of dengue transmission. Between 50 million and 100 million infections occur every year.
  • In Karnataka there has been a severe dengue fever outbreak since 2012. There have been 3,140 positive cases in the state, resulting in 21 deaths in 2012
  • Infection with the Dengue Virus can result in sever fever, also known as Dengue Hemmorhagic Fever, which can be fatal. However, mortality can be greatly reduced (to less than 1%) if the fever is diagnosed early and managed properly.
